Testing & Service Engineer – Motors and Generators

About the Job
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Testing & Service Engineer – Motors and Generators to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the testing, diagnosis, repair, maintenance, and commissioning of low, medium, and high-voltage electric motors and generators. This role requires strong technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and a commitment to safety and quality.

Responsibilities:
  • Perform testing, inspection, and diagnosis of electric motors and generators (LV, MV, and HV).
  • Conduct electrical and mechanical testing before and after repairs to ensure equipment meets performance standards.
  • Troubleshoot electrical and mechanical faults, identify root causes, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Carry out motor and generator repairs, including rewinding, insulation repairs, bearing replacement, and component refurbishment.
  • Perform shaft alignment, rotor balancing, and vibration analysis using specialized equipment.
  • Operate testing and diagnostic equipment, including insulation resistance testers, surge testers, winding resistance meters, dynamic balancing machines, and laser alignment systems.
  • Prepare detailed test reports, service reports, and repair documentation.
  • Ensure all work complies with company procedures, industry standards, and safety regulations.
  • Support on-site installation, commissioning, maintenance, and emergency breakdown services when required.
  • Provide technical recommendations to customers regarding maintenance and equipment reliability.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized workshop and work environment.
  • Collaborate with engineering and operations teams to deliver quality service within project timelines.

Requirements:
  • Diploma or Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electromechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience in testing, servicing, or repairing electric motors and generators.
  • Strong knowledge of synchronous and induction motors, generators, and rotating equipment.
  • Experience with electrical testing equipment and mechanical diagnostic tools.
  • Understanding of motor rewinding, insulation systems, bearing replacement, and balancing techniques.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, technical drawings, and manufacturer specifications.
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Valid driver's license (preferred).
  • Willingness to travel to customer sites when required.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with HV motor and generator testing.
  • Knowledge of vibration analysis and predictive maintenance techniques.
  • Experience with commissioning and field service operations.
  • Relevant electrical or rotating equipment certifications are an advantage.
