Job Summary:
The Motor Testing & Service Engineer is responsible for installation, testing, commissioning, troubleshooting, servicing, and maintenance of electric motors and associated equipment. The role ensures reliable, safe, and efficient operation of motors in compliance with IEC / IEEE standards and customer requirements, both in the workshop and at site.
Key Responsibilities:
Motor Testing & Diagnostics:
- Perform routine and advanced electrical testing of LV and MV motors, including:
- Insulation Resistance (IR) & Polarization Index (PI).
- High Voltage (HV / AC & DC) testing.
- Tan Delta / Dielectric Loss Angle testing.
- Partial Discharge (PD) testing and analysis.
- Surge comparison testing.
- Winding resistance, continuity, and phase balance checks.
- Conduct no-load and load testing as per applicable standards.
- Interpret test results, identify insulation deterioration, and recommend corrective actions.
- Prepare detailed test reports, analysis summaries, and test certificates.
Installation & Commissioning:
- Supervise and execute installation of electric motors at site and workshop.
- Verify foundation, grouting, alignment (soft foot, laser alignment), and mounting conditions.
- Coordinate mechanical and electrical installation activities with contractors and clients.
- Support cable termination, earthing, and pre‑commissioning checks.
- Perform final commissioning, trial runs, and handover documentation.
Service, Maintenance & Troubleshooting:
- Diagnose and rectify electrical and mechanical faults in motors and drives.
- Carry out preventive and corrective maintenance.
- Perform dismantling, inspection, reassembly, bearing replacement, and alignment.
- Support motor overhauling and rewinding inspections.
Field Service & Customer Support:
- Attend breakdowns, shutdowns, and emergency service calls.
- Commission new or overhauled motors at customer sites.
- Communicate test findings, repair scope, and recommendations to customers.
- Ensure adherence to agreed timelines and quality expectations.
Documentation & Compliance:
- Maintain accurate service reports, test records, installation checklists, and commissioning documents.
- Ensure compliance with HSE requirements, permit systems, and company policies.
- Follow IEC / IEEE standards and client‑specific technical specifications.
Collaboration & Continuous Improvement:
- Coordinate with engineering, service, QA/QC, and project teams.
- Assist in root cause analysis of motor failures.
- Stay updated with modern motor testing technologies and diagnostic methods.
Qualifications & Experience:
Education:
- Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
Experience:
- 3-5 years of hands‑on experience in motor testing, servicing, installation, and commissioning.
- Experience with LV and MV motors is preferred.
Technical Skills:
- Strong knowledge of:
- Induction, synchronous, DC, and VFD‑driven motors.
- Advanced diagnostic testing (Tan Delta & Partial Discharge).
- Testing instruments: Megger, HV test sets, PD analyzers, surge testers, vibration analyzers.
- Electrical drawings and schematics.
- Familiar with IEC / IEEE testing and installation standards.
Soft Skills:
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
- Clear communication and customer‑handling ability.
- Ability to work independently and at remote sites.
- Willingness to travel and work during shutdowns as required.
Health, Safety & Environment (HSE):
- Strict compliance with safety procedures, risk assessments, and work permits.
- Ensure proper use of PPE during testing, installation, and service activities.
- Promote safe working practices at site and workshop.
